Antique Florentine Alabaster Bust by A. Batacchi
A beautifully carved 19th-century Italian alabaster bust by Florentine sculptor A. Batacchi, signed “A. Batacchi, Florence” to the reverse. An elegant edition to a console or bookshelf.
The romanticized female figure is depicted in elaborate historic dress, with a delicate veil and headdress framing her softly modeled features and intricately carved buckle across her bodice. Batacchi's contrasting treatment of the smooth, luminous face against the softly textured drapery beautifully showcases the supple quality of alabaster. The bust closely resembles similar works of Dante Alighieri's Lady Beatrice.
In antique condition with age-related surface wear and patina, including a small chip to the eyelid, left shoulder, and areas of age-related surface wear.
Italy, late 19th century
