Marquetry Scent Casket with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay & Crystal Bottles
A mid/late 19th-century marquetry scent casket with a geometric diamond-patterned lid accented by mother-of-pearl inlay. The hinged lid opens to a pale, moiré-patterned lining and four crystal scent bottles with decorative gilt mounts and smooth fluted cuts. An elegant dressing-table piece, bringing together richly patterned wood, iridescent inlay and delicate glass. Includes a key.
Beneath each bottle, a beautifully handwritten label names its scent, offering a glimpse of what may have been one woman's weekly perfume rotation. Some perfume still remains inside the bottles, preserving a wonderfully personal trace of their past. If you would prefer the bottles cleaned out before shipping, please email to request this.
Note** Please note wear to the interior lining and inlay. The bottle stoppers are different heights, likely due to them being replaced.
