Napoleon III Emerald Crystal & Gilt Bronze Scent Casket
A late 19th-century scent casket in deep emerald crystal, held within an openwork gilt bronze mount. Ribbon-tied garlands fall in tasseled swags around the rim, while four allegorical castings encircle the body in celebration of the arts: Music with her lyre beside a flaming tripod, Sculpture working with mallet and chisel on a helmeted bust, Painting at her easel with palette in hand, and a contemplative figure with scrolls and a theatrical mask, representing Poetry and the dramatic arts.
The emerald scent bottles rise above the mount, each finished with a decorative gilt collar and a jewel-like faceted stopper. Created for the perfumes of a 19th-century dressing table, the ensemble brings together rich color, intricate classical ornament, and a tribute to artistic creation.
Note** General age related wear and imperfections to be expected. Small separation of garland under one stopper can be seen in the last photo.
