Tortoise & Silver Souvenir Dance Card Case with Painted Miniatures

A French tortoiseshell souvenir dance card case mounted in silver, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. Finely engraved drums, banners and roses surround miniature paintings of a lion and rooster, protected beneath glass. Inside, delicate bone leaves provided a place to record dance partners and small notes. The inscription "Souvenir d'amitié," or "keepsake of friendship," adds a personal sentiment to this beautifully detailed accessory. Bears a French silver hallmark.
